“Farang freehold” is a term commonly used in Thailand to describe a type of property ownership that allows foreigners to own the property outright, without any restrictions on ownership or use. In other words, it means that the foreign owner has the same legal rights and protections as a Thai citizen who owns a property.
In Thailand, foreigners are generally not allowed to own land in their own name, but they can own condominium units freehold under certain conditions. These conditions include that the condominium project must be majority-owned by Thai citizens, and the foreigner’s ownership of the unit cannot exceed 49% of the total area of all units in the project.
